The Robots Need Our Help
“The future world would be one where the focus will be on collaboration and one where AI will become the “chief of staff” allowing societies an equal access of technology and therefore flexible models of working. “
-Stuart Templeton, The Future is Exciting
I have some GREAT news to share! The robots and A.I. aren’t planning to take our jobs. Recent studies and reports are stating that our technological advancements will actually create more jobs, and the robots need our help to complete their task. Stuart Templeton, the head of Slack UK, said, “the future would be one where the future is focused on collaboration and one where AI will become the ‘chief of staff‘.” Continue reading Can Humanity & Robots Build the Future Together?
Set the Genius FREE!
“Mozart acknowledged that his great work was simply a by-product of diligent and consistent hard-work on his craft for many years.”
-Mayo OShin, Ladders Magazine
In last weeks newsletter, I focused on encouraging you to switch your focus from “finding your passion” and challenged you to switch to the Carole Dweck approved phrase of “developing your passion.” This week I would like to discuss the hard-work and effort that actually goes into taking your skills to the next level.
Mayo Oshin in his article, Mozart on How to Unlock Your Inner Creative Genius, writes, “there is a destructive myth that the ‘creative genius’ is born with an innate, godlike ability to create extraordinary work at the snap of their finger…this couldn’t be further from the truth.” Oshin’s article states that the inner genius is developed through consistent practice. Will You Matter in 2030?
“Demand for higher cognitive skills such as creativity, critical thinking and decision making, and complex information processing, will grow through 2030 at cumulative double-digit rates.”
-Adam Jezard, The World Economic Forum
I know that 2030 is a long time from now, but it is never too early to start planning for the future. If you have been following iMar Learning Solutions then you already know that 2020 is the year that the way we “work” is scheduled to be impacted the most. A lot of reports originally reported doom and gloom, and there is some truth to that. Here is a list of the Top 20 Jobs that will be eliminated by 2020.
New reports are actually stating that A.I. will create more new jobs than they eliminate, and that is GREAT news. But, do you have the correct skills to land one of these new A.I. created jobs? Skills like creativity, social and emotional intelligence, and creative problem solving will be more important than ever because we need leaders that can navigate the new landscape and lead their respective teams to the promised land. Oliver Cann, Director of Public Engagement for The World Economic Forum, said, “A clear majority of businesses believe that investing in skills, rather than hiring more short-term or virtual workers, is the key to successfully managing disruptions to the labour market for the long term.” Don’t forget to check out the article below to learn more about what you skills you will need to succeed in 2030.

Closing the Gap Together
“Despite U.S. high school graduation rates reaching all-time highs, many employers are finding that recent graduates are unprepared to succeed in the workforce because they lack foundational “soft skills.” While technical skills are often industry-specific, soft skills such as professional communication, critical thinking, collaboration, and time management are valued by employers across sectors.” -U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation recently published a report on why the business and education sector must work together to close the soft skills gap. These two sectors working together seems like one of those solutions that is almost so obvious we could have almost missed it. iMar is working daily to seek out partners so that we can bring our soft skills training to the people that need it most. We focus on the “Big 6” of critical thinking: Leadership, Creative Problem Solving, Analytical Thinking, Collaboration, Social & Emotional Intelligence, and Communication, because as the report mentions these are the skills that employers want that are rare to find.

The Future is Here
“People are using technology like voice-activated apps and smartphone calendars to enhance their everyday lives and that is also translating to their work,” Cotton says. “As employers, we have to embrace that — how do we give people the opportunity to work from anywhere while still being productive?” writes Pooneh Ghana for WIRED magazine.
Our jobs are no longer constrained to just the brick and mortar office of yesterday. Our office is now online, we meet in chat rooms for meetings, we share project duties through resources like ASANA, and the ability to manage all of this can become a nightmare. Preparation and updating your skills will be the key to success for the future of the workplace, and iMar is here with you every step of the way.

Your Passion Does Not Have to Be Mine
I remember sitting in my college geology lab and thinking to myself, “I will never need this” and “why am I here?” I’m sure you have felt the same way as you struggled through classes that have absolutely nothing to do with your life or career. I enjoyed my geology class that was required for me to graduate. My professor was amazing and I could really feel his passion and love for rocks in every lecture. Unfortunately for me, I did not share his love and passion. Instead of taking that class, I could have been focusing on my strengths and what was important to me. In 2001 the No Child Left Behind Act bill was signed and passed through Congress. Different aspects of the bill have been highly debated and criticized. The education systems dislike of the bill has not gone unnoticed. I do not agree with all aspects, if any, of the No Child Left Behind Act, but I do agree that students are being left behind, and something needs to be done. Unfortunately, many adults are about to face a similar situation and it is time to join the Education Revolution. If something does not change many Baby Boomers and Generation Xer’s will be left behind when it comes to the skills needed to perform their job due to the disruptions that are here (not coming, already HERE) because of the advancement in artificial intelligence, robotics, and automation. Baby Boomers and Generation X, this message is for you. IMar Learning Solutions is extending its Millennial hand to help you through the changes that are disrupting your life and career. “Eventually the existing skills will become outmoded.”
-Jeff Bezos Amazon Ceo
The Bigger They Are the Harder They Fall
I did not think that I would live to see the day retail giants like Sears, Kohl’s and Macy’s could not weather the storm that is the result of Hurricane Amazon. These juggernauts have been the cornerstone of retail shopping for decades and now they have met their match. The retail leaders of the past must either adapt to the technological disruptions that the Fourth Industrial Revolution is bringing about or get rolled over. Jeff Bezos, the founder, and CEO of Amazon has planned this take over for a long time and he is finally seeing the fruit of his labor. In his 1997 letter to his investors, Bezos wrote “We believe that a fundamental measure of our success will be the shareholder value we create over the long term. This value will be a direct result of our ability to extend and solidify our current leadership position. The stronger our market leadership, the more powerful our economic model.” A lot of jobs will be lost but with some guidance, many will create opportunities to actually advance their career and prosper from the vast economic changes that many are not focusing on yet, including some government officials. The X-Factor=Soft Skills
If you have been following the wave of changes due to the technological disruptions caused by Industry 4.0 then you know that developing your soft skills is the x-factor for current and future career success. If you have not been paying attention, then you really need to thank God that you stumbled upon this article. But what exactly are soft skills? Lei Han, the founder of Be My Career Coach, defines soft skills as, “skills we use to interact with others at work” and “these are the skills to help us manage self-perception and our reactions to adverse situations.” Don’t let the name fool you because having the right balance of soft skills and technical skills can be what lands you your big promotion. For example, if an employer is debating between hiring you and the candidate that has more technical skill experience, your ability to showcase and highlight your soft skills could possibly be what gives you the competitive edge over your competition.
